What Is Engineered Wood Flooring?

Engineered wood flooring blends the authentic look of real timber with advanced construction for added strength and stability. Each board features a top layer of genuine oak or walnut, supported by multiple layers that resist warping and movement. This makes it an excellent choice for homes across the UK, especially in areas with changing temperatures or humidity. Available in classic plank designs as well as stylish herringbone and chevron patterns, engineered flooring brings timeless character with modern practicality.

Why Choose Engineered Wood Flooring?

  • A cost effective alternative to solid wood
  • Quicker and easier to install
  • Wide choice of styles - plank, chevron, and herringbone
  • Highly durable and easier to maintain
  • Better resistance to moisture and temperature changes
  • Suitable for use with underfloor heating when specified correctly

Engineered Wood FAQs

Is engineered wood flooring considered real wood?

Yes. Engineered flooring has a genuine hardwood surface layer, typically between 2mm and 6mm thick.

Can I use engineered wood flooring in my kitchen?

Yes. Its layered construction makes it more stable than solid wood, so it copes better with changes in humidity.

What is the wear layer on engineered wood flooring?

The wear layer is the top hardwood surface. For example, a 14/3mm board is 14mm overall, with a 3mm real wood top layer.

How long does engineered wood flooring last?

With proper care, engineered floors can last 20 years or more, depending on the thickness of the wear layer.

Can engineered wood flooring be used with underfloor heating?

Yes, provided the board is not thicker than 18mm overall and the wear layer does not exceed 5mm. This helps ensure efficient heat transfer.
