Species
Our European Walnut Worktop retains all of its natural colouring. The worktop has a stunning dark chocolate brown colour and it will uplift any kitchen look. The European Walnut is very durable and strong wood.
Walnut wood originates from walnut trees, a family of over 21 species of trees found from Europe to Japan. Walnut timber is extremely hard, dense and tight-grained, properties which make it a prized flooring and worktops wood. It starts as a dull brown colour wood, but when air-dried it becomes a rich chocolate-brown colour.
Why We Recommend European Walnut Worktops
» They can be a great focal point in any kitchen
» By its nature Walnut is very durable making it perfect as a kitchen or bar worktop
» Super high quality wood
Worktop Construction
Worktop is made from staves of solid wood which are then cut, graded and kiln dried to ensure a moisture level suitable for domestic interior. These materials are then glued together to form one homogeneous panel of wood which is stable and durable. Worktop is especially designed for interior use and will easily handle the day to day use required from a kitchen or bar worktop.
The finger-joints that make up these worktops are made of pieces of top-quality natural wood as you’d expect. Those pieces are glued together along their width and length to make large blocks of strong and stylish wood that are perfect in a kitchen setting.
Each piece will have a width of between 38mm and 42mm.
Important Information
We strongly recommend to schedule the delivery max 2-3 days before the fitting
Wood is a natural product and may have significant colour variation, and whilst every effort is made to colour match as much as possible, we cannot guarantee any consistency of colour from one worktop to another.
The worktop’s appearance will be according to the grading mentioned, the grading refers to the top side only the bottom side can be lower grading with wood filler .
The full stave worktop is solid wood which can be affected from the humidity in the room and some time during the year the wood can have some small cracks which will disappear when the humidity is higher.
More Information
Grade
When wood is processed it is graded into one of four different categories: prime, select, natural or rustic. This grading process takes into account the number and the size of knots that are present in the wood, the consistency of the colour and the amount of sap naturally present in the wood. The Natural grade of this floor allows sapwood, knots of varying sizes, some mineral streaks, natural grain pattern and colour variation. Any knots, splits or imperfections might be filled by coloured or wood colour filler.
Storage
Please ensure that your Worktops are completely re-wrapped after inspection and stored on completely flat and level surface, with bearers in between (this will allow the air to circulate between the worktops and prevent deflection). Do not store worktops vertically or on edges.
All worktops need to be kept inside your house (not in a garage or any other outbuilding). During storage, please make sure that they are kept well away from extreme heat (radiators, underfloor heating AGA’s and intense direct sunlight etc) and kept away from any moist areas (recently plastered walls, dump basements etc). All wet trades should be finished and a sufficient period of time allowed for natural drying out before storing hardwood worktops in the same room. Allow the worktop a day or so to adjust to the ambient temperature and humidity of its new surroundings prior to installation.
If you wish to store your worktops for a long period, you should turn them every other day to prevent cupping or bowing.
