Luxury Vinyl Flooring FAQs

What is the difference between LVT, LVP and SPC?

LVT and LVP share similar luxury vinyl constructions but differ in format - tile vs plank. SPC adds a rigid mineral core for extra stability, which helps with click installation and performance over slightly imperfect subfloors.

Is luxury vinyl flooring waterproof?

The surface is water resistant and suitable for kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms. Perimeter and transitions should be sealed correctly as per installation guidance.

Can I use luxury vinyl flooring with underfloor heating?

Yes, within the manufacturer’s temperature limits. A common maximum surface temperature guideline is around 27°C. Always follow the product’s fitting instructions.

Click or glue-down - which should I choose?

Click systems are faster and often paired with an underlay for comfort and sound reduction. Glue-down gives a firmer feel and is preferred in heavy traffic or areas with direct sunlight where movement control is important.

What thickness and wear layer do I need?

Residential spaces typically use wear layers from 0.3mm to 0.55mm and overall thickness from about 4mm to 6.5mm plus underlay. Choose thicker wear layers for higher traffic areas.

Do I need underlay with SPC or LVT?

Many SPC click floors include an attached underlay. If not, a suitable underlay can improve comfort and sound reduction. Glue-down LVT is installed directly to a well prepared subfloor using the recommended adhesive.
