White Flooring: What Are Your Options?

White wood flooring is a really stylish and attractive option, no matter what overall interior style you have.  White flooring is a colour option that really lends itself to a whole mix of furnishing and wall colours.  So, no matter whether your house is shabby chic or minimalist, a white floor will set it off to the max.  When it comes to your options for white flooring, at Wood and Beyond, we have a great selection. Here are just some of the choices you have:

Carpet

White or off-white carpeting is a really popular choice for people seeking a seriously plush and cosy look.  Available in short and long pile, white carpeting can look extremely stylish.  That said, there’s no getting away from the fact that it’s not the most practical solution in the world.  This option may work for you if you live alone and are fanatical about taking your shoes off at the door and never eating in the lounge, but with even the best will in the world and the strongest stain protection, you’re highly likely to have some sort of horrible stain appear on your pride and joy at some point.  It is for this reason that most white carpets don’t get beyond the show-homes!

Tile or marble

White tiles or white marble flooring are both much more practical solutions than white carpeting because they’re easy to clean and pretty difficult to stain.  An option chosen in many of the tropical countries of the world, they are selected because they stay nice and cool in the heat of the sun.  While this is a huge advantage if you live in the likes of Barbados or the Bahamas, this isn’t generally the best solution if your home is in Berkhampstead for example.  This is particularly true if you’re looking for a white floor that you can fit throughout your home!

Both tiles and marble flooring have a tendency to be cold, unless of course you have invested in under floor heating.  Add to this the natural coldness of white and off-white colourways in this option and most people’s conclusion is that it’s not a particularly ideal solution for the Great British climate.  All of that said, there is nothing to say that white tile or marble flooring can’t look great in a kitchen, bathroom, shower or utility room.

Vinyl or laminate

Once again, white vinyl is a much more practical option than white carpeting but isn’t normally considered to be suitable for every room in the home.  While vinyl, like white laminate, is highly acceptable in kitchens, toilets, bathrooms, shower and utility rooms, the thought of having this option in a lounge or a bedroom is a ‘no-no’ for most people.

Engineered Wood Flooring

If you want a highly flexible, easy to maintain and stable flooring option that you can fit in any room of the home, then engineered wood flooring is likely to be your best bet.  Particularly if you’ve decided that you want to fit wood flooring in either a bathroom or a kitchen, engineered wood flooring is without a doubt the very best solution.  This is also the case if you have under floor heating.  The reason for this is that engineered flooring doesn’t expand and contract to the same extent as solid wood, so won’t take harm from the somewhat extensive expansion and contraction that happens with fluctuating temperatures and, or moisture levels.

If you’re struggling to make a decision about which solution would suit you best, don’t hesitate to contact us.  We have a whole team of experts on hand ready to help you.
