When To Choose Grey Or White Wood Flooring

At Wood and Beyond we’ve seen a real trend towards grey and white flooring over the past few years and it’s for this reason that we’ve worked our socks off to source some great examples.  For a long time, everyone chose wood flooring that was almost orange.  Thankfully those days are over and while people are still, understandably very fond of honey-coloured, natural looking wood options, a huge number of people are opting for either very blonde or very dark wood to complete their flooring projects.  That said, in recent times a move towards grey and white flooring has been really evident.

So what is making people choose grey or white wood flooring?

In many ways it’s easy to see why white wood flooring is so popular.  A colourway that goes with absolutely everything and anything, it’s also bright and creates a real illusion of space, particularly when used in small rooms.  If you have a room that’s on the smaller side than you’d ideally prefer and is struggling from a light point of view, white wood flooring is the ideal choice.  Either broad or narrow boards will create an immediate feeling of increased volume as well as throwing a wash of light across the whole area.

No matter whether your interior is ultra-modern, shabby chic or based around Louis XV furnishings, a white wooden floor will give an eclectic twist to your room.  The perfect backdrop to either a bright colour palette; muted, washed out linens or a monochrome mix, you can be sure that by choosing a white wooden floor you won’t be disappointed.  No matter whether you choose a pristine, lacquered finish or a brushed and oiled, almost distressed looking finish you can be sure that your floor will always look warm, stylish and welcoming.

When it comes to grey wood flooring, again it’s easy to see why this option is so popular.  Some people are apprehensive about choosing black as their preferred option in the fear that they’ll tire of it too quickly, so they choose grey as the perfect half-way house, less radical alternative.  Once again, grey flooring lends itself perfectly to monochrome settings as well as muted colour palettes and neutral tones.  Ideally used as the backdrop to either modern or bohemian style older furnishings, a grey floor can make a really confident style statement, particularly if you plan it correctly.

Here are a couple of options that we think work really well in most settings and certainly won’t break the bank:

  1. This Grey Prime Engineered Click Oak Flooring has been white oiled and comes with a UV filter.  At just under £40 (ex VAT) per square metre, this flooring option is suited to any room in the home and looks a million dollars.  The UV filter present in this solution means that it will withstand even the brightest sun in the sunniest room of the home without taking hurt.  Add to this the fact that it boasts the click system for easy installation and you start to see why it’s such a popular choice.
  2. Another lovely grey option is this Select, UK Grey flooring.  While it is actually grey, it has a real warmth about it and has been hardwax oiled so it will stand up to its fair share of heavy footfall.  And at under £30 (ex VAT) per square metre, it really is a bargain.
  3. When it comes to white coloured flooring, at Wood and Beyond we have quite a choice.   As you’ll see, we have everything from this Natural Sunny White option at just over £20 (ex VAT) per square metre to this Select Oak Fired, brushed and white oiled option which is almost zebra-look.  It’s for this reason that we think this is the perfect compromise between grey and white flooring if you’re struggling to decide.

So as you can see, at Wood and Beyond, if you’re looking for grey or white flooring, you truly will be spoilt for choice.  What’s more, we’re all passionate about flooring here, so if you’d like some help to choose the best option for your project, why not get in touch?
