What Are Exotic Hardwood Flooring

Not so very long ago, to get the look of an exotic hardwood floor without the end result costing you an arm and a leg, the only option was to use clever staining techniques.  Typically emanating from places such as South America, Africa, India and Asia, exotic hardwood floors are sought after not only for their aesthetic values but also because they are so hard wearing and durable as a wood flooring option.  With names like Ipe, African Wenge, Cumaru, Brazilian Cherry and Pacific Mahogany, there’s little surprise that this category of wood is called “exotic” hardwood.

The term exotic hardwood is a term used for hardwood flooring which originates from outside of the UK and is typically made up of species which don’t exist in our climate.  Exotic hardwood flooring comes in a whole range of colours and shades which simply aren’t found in woods native to the UK, again reinforcing the exotic nature of this wood flooring option.

In the past it was quite often the case that indigenous woods were coloured to look like exotic hardwood, but nowadays with the widespread availability and the relative affordability of exotic hardwood engineered and solid wood flooring, it is possible to have the real thing.  In the home or in commercial properties, exotic hardwood can be used to create some really dramatic interior styling effects.  The likes of dark African Wenge wood flooring might be introduced to a room to create a really stunning, modern backdrop for the furnishings, as can Morado Rosewood.  If you’re looking for a lighter option, which will create a completely different look altogether, Asian Teak is highly likely to fit the bill.

Apart from its hardwearing nature, another advantage of exotic hardwood flooring is that its richness of colour won’t fade even with the harshest wear and tear.  African Wenge, for example, is dark to its core, as is Morado Rosewood and Asian Teak is the same colour within as it is on the outside.  This means that scratches and small dents are less of an issue than they would be on floors which are stained to achieve their desired colour.

At one time only an option for those with a top-end budget, exotic hardwood flooring is becoming a much more affordable, as well as sought after flooring option, offering you the depth of colour you’re looking for at the same time as a really hard wearing and durable option.
