Traditional Style Wood Flooring

It may seem like a contradiction in terms to say new traditional style wood flooring, but if you think about it, in all areas of fashion and interiors manufacturers are getting better and better at making new look old. While genuinely old is what some people insist upon, the vast majority of us want a traditional look that we can achieve by investing in new products.

It may be that we want big squashy sofas covered in linen that look like it has stood the test of time, or rugs that have been aged to look worn in when in fact they’re new. You’ll get the idea. It’s a look that suggests poise and confidence and a certain heritage. But it is achievable without investing a fortune. And you can have it without having to wait for genuinely old pieces to catch your eye or appear in the auction rooms.

One of the key places to start to get the new traditional style look is with the right wood flooring. At one time, new traditional wood flooring would have only included reclaimed look flooring, but now the old looking floor marketplace is a whole lot wider. This is great news if you’re re-doing a room and want to avail of this old, yet new styling. We spoke about a range of this sort of flooring recently in this blog post. You’ll see when you look at the article, we compared the top 5 old style wood flooring options.

Of course we included reclaimed wood flooring because it was the first, the original and will always be a huge part of this market. But we also included drift wood, farmhouse, dark rustic and antique finish. In effect, while these wood flooring finishes are all relatively new, they are all, without exception, taking on the look of an aged, traditional floor. And the great news is that ageing effects are getting better and better as time goes on.

Only a few years ago, a floor that had been artificially aged would have screamed “I’m not genuinely old – I’ve just been made to look old!” (probably with three exclamation marks, not just one!). Thankfully this is no longer the case.

New methods used to age flooring and all other sorts of materials are being improved every day. You only need to look at the denim jeans industry to see that. If anyone had told your grandparents when they were young that during their lifetime people would be paying extra for a pair of jeans that were ripped, faded and worn looking, they’d have laughed in your face (and, come to think about it, they probably still do).

Only a couple of generations ago, real pride meant having something new that looked new and screamed out – I’ve just been bought with hard earned cash. Nowadays people are seeking out purchases that are more understated.

At one point not so very long ago, bling was the thing. Now, anyone who’s anyone knows that a confident, lived in style works really well no matter whether it’s for clothing or for interiors. I’m sure there’s a whole formal psychology around it, but for me, when I go into someone’s home and they’ve worked to make it look cleverly lived-in, I find it really inviting.

In fact, I have a friend who has done this to a tee. With (of course) a clever wood flooring backdrop – this one in fact. What she’s done is build a room that looks like it’s a clever combination of heirlooms and modern pieces. She’s combined modern accessories in bright acid colours with neutral over-sized sofas in washed out linens, scattered with cuddle-in sheepskin rugs that just make you want to take up residence. She really has achieved the new traditional style, starting from her wood flooring up. And the great news is that she did it all on a budget. That means you can do it too. You don’t need to invest a fortune to look like you have!

With all our new traditional style wood flooring currently on offer with 70% off, you’ll be able to invest the money you save finishing off your room in exactly the way you want to. What’s holding you back? You could have your room looking just the way you want it to sooner than you think!
