It’s not surprising that we’re all keen to have an attractive kitchen.  With more and more cookery programmes on TV and a growing interest in home improvement, wooden kitchen worktops are on the “wish list” of many.  A wooden kitchen worktop is a great way to bring style and warmth to your room.  There are several options when it comes to wooden kitchen worktops ranging from the extremely popular oak, to the more exotic and less well-known Zebrano.  The different woods on offer have different colourings, finishings, markings and prices, so we’ve put together a handy guide (below) to give you a good overview of the options.  This should help you in your decision-making process.

Why Choose Wood For Your Kitchen Worktop?

Wood worktops are made from strips or staves of solid wood.  These strips are selected, cut, graded and kiln dried to ensure a moisture level which is suitable for use in domestic kitchens. These strips or staves are then glued together to form one homogeneous panel wooden worktop. This process, known as finger jointing, gives a stable, durable construction to the wood. It reduces the natural defects of the wood and ensures a more consistent colour and grain pattern. That said, there will always be some pattern, colour and grain differences over timber surfaces because it is a natural product. This is a normal and valued characteristic of the appearance of wooden products.
