Prefinished Timber Flooring Is The Latest Hot Trend

Prefinished timber flooring, as the name suggests is wood flooring that is delivered to you with its finish already in place. A relatively recent way of buying wood flooring, prefinished really is the latest hot trend. Many years ago, if you wanted a wood floor, you went along to your carpenter and ordered the type of wood you wanted and asked for it to be cut to the thickness, width and length you needed for your project. While this ensured that you were getting exactly what you wanted and left a valuable place for real craftsmen in cities, towns and villages, it wasn’t necessarily the most efficient way of catering for the demand for wood flooring we’re seeing today.

Add to this, the fact that when you received your chosen wood from the carpenter that you’d then have to find someone to lay it and possibly someone else to treat and finish it and you start to see how the options we have open to us today are so very, very attractive.

In 2016, the wood flooring market is huge. The selection of wood flooring solutions is immense. This is understandable because wood is a natural product that’s highly sought after as a home and interior decoration feature. With everything from bargain basement solutions up to top spec, high ticket options available, you really will be spoilt for choice. But one of the hot trends that is worth thinking about right now is prefinished timber flooring.

When you’re planning your wood flooring project, you’ll no doubt have a picture in your mind of the sort of look you want. It may be that your aim is to create a light, airy, almost beach-like feel in your room, or maybe dark and mysterious is more your style? Either way, by choosing a prefinished timber solution, you could be enjoying the exact look you want quicker than you imagine possible right now.

Choosing prefinished timber flooring is relatively straightforward, but there are a few things that are worth bearing in mind. First and foremost, the finish on the floor could mean anything from artificial ageing to UV lacquer, so you need to be clear about what you want. Here are some examples of prefinished timber flooring that will help you visualize the range that’s available:

  1. If you want a light, airy look in a room that has to put up with relatively high footfall or heavy traffic, this Natural Engineered Oak Double White Brushed UV Lacquered solution is ideal for you. With the benefit of being brushed and UV lacquered it will stand up to a tough life and still look great at the end of it. Ideal for use in any room in the home, including bathrooms and kitchens, when you choose this floor you’ll feel as if you’ve been swept away to your own desert island every time you enter the room.
  2. If you’re looking for more of a classic, timeless feel for your room, then this Select Engineered Oak Reclaim Brown UV Oiled floor will tick all your boxes. In a natural, rich honey shade, this option will never date and also benefits from having been aged to look like a genuinely old floor and then UV oiled, which means that it looks extremely natural and yet will stand up to the effects of the sun thanks to the UV filter it contains.
  3. If dark and dramatic is your goal, then you can’t go wrong with this Select Engineered Oak Smoked Reclaim Black UV Oiled floor which has been smoked to make it lovely and dark, as well as aged to make it look like a reclaimed floor and topped off with the all important UV filter, in this case contained in an oil finish. The UV filter means that this floor won’t fade in sunlight. This is really important when you choose a dark coloured flooring option, because the sun can play havoc with your floor if it’s not protected. Working a bit like a sunscreen, the UV filter will keep your dark and dramatic floor looking dark and dramatic for longer, so do make sure you include this in your prefinished timber tick-list if you’re choosing a dark flooring solution.
