Mix White, Grey And Lime Wood Flooring For A Great Effect

If you’re one of the many people seeking out a really modern look in your home, wood floors are hard to beat. Although wood flooring can be used to great effect in a home that’s full of antiques, has a shabby chic feel or vintage look, modern, cutting edge designer is very easily achieved too if you make the right choices.

Lime wood flooring, white wood flooring and grey wood flooring are all great ways to make sure your home is bang on trend right now. But what if you’re a bit wary of going the whole hog and decking out your entire house with lime, white or grey wood flooring for the fear that you’ll tire of it?

In this instance, one great option is to create a clever and interesting mix of white, grey and lime wood flooring throughout your home. By opting for a well-planned palette of each of these modern wood flooring solutions, you can be sure that you’ll never get fed up of any one of them and you’ll also have the contrast and interest you want in your interior.

Let’s look at two examples. In the first example, we’ll assume you have a family home with 3 bedrooms that plays host to two adults and two kids. In the second example, let’s say that you are the proud owner of a two-bed apartment where you live as a couple and have turned the spare bedroom into a home office (with the ability to sleep guests when needed).

For the purpose of this illustration, we’re going to assume that your priorities are to create an illusion of space and also to have an easy to maintain home.

The first part of your home that you or any visitor is going to see is your hallway. This is also the space that’ll get the toughest traffic. Investing in good doormats and asking people to take their shoes off will ease the pressure on your hallway flooring, but in order for it to stand up to real life, you need to choose carefully.

What we’d recommend in this room is a grey coloured, lacquered or hardwax oiled wood floor. The grey colour will cleverly hide any unruly footprints and the lacquer or hardwax oil will help keep your floor looking great for longer. If you choose an engineered wood flooring option, you could also think about extending the same flooring into your kitchen as well as your downstairs loo. Going this route will give an impression of space as well as giving you a highly practical solution in the busiest rooms in the home.

In your sitting room, you could plump for a nice white wood floor like this one. Not only will this wood floor solution give your room an immediate boost in terms of space and light, it’ll also make it feel really special. Cleverly introducing a few off-white rugs will add to the luxury, making this a room where you can enjoy quiet adult time as well as the hustle and bustle of family life.

When it comes to the bedrooms, choosing a mix of white, lime and grey will cleverly lend each room a completely different feel. Going this route means that each person in the family feels as if they have their signature on their sleeping quarters.

When it comes to your ensuite and your family bathroom, it’s a tough call to beat a limed floor in either of these settings, but if your bedroom is small, you may want to keep your ensuite in the same wood flooring as you’ve chosen for your master bedroom to give an impression of continuity? That one’s up to you!

2-bed love nest

Because there’s only two of you living in your apartment, you can be as bold as you wish with your choices of wood flooring. All of that said, like the three bed home example we’ve outlined above, a grey wood floor such as this one, in your hallway will create a stunning entrance piece to your home.

Once you have the hallway sorted, you’ll probably be thinking about the lounge. In the case of an apartment, we’d be tempted to run the same flooring from the hallway into the lounge and kitchen area to create a real illusion of space. So if you do plump for this option, it’s important to make sure that this option will work well in the two other public rooms in your apartment.

When it comes to bedrooms and bathrooms, because traffic is likely to be light (unless you work from home and have a lot of visitors), again you can have complete freedom to choose. In our view, it’s a good idea to choose a different option for each bedroom with the master bedroom choice extending into the ensuite shower or bathroom. Once again, we find a limed wood floor hard to beat for the main bathroom.

All of that said, when you’re mixing and matching from this palette, you really can go as wild as you like. In fact if you have a loft apartment, you could even be so bold as to mix colours in each room, maybe, for example, by creating a border around the room to create a stunning effect.
