Installing Wood Flooring On Walls

One important thing to bear in mind however, before even considering installing wood flooring on your wall, is that the base on which you’ll fit the floor is stable.  The reason for this is that wood flooring must be staggered when it’s fitted, so it simply can’t be fitted over an unstable surface whereby the planks can’t be secured along the their entire length.  Installing plywood on your wall before fitting the wood flooring to the wall makes an ideal, stable surface.

If you plan to install your wood flooring horizontally on your wall, it’s important to establish a level starting point.  You can do this by marking a line the width of one plank above the floor.  When you’ve done this, you should use this as your starting point.  The same is true for vertical installations, whereby you start one plank-width in from each wall.  Nailing the wood flooring in place is the most effective way of securing it to the plywood.

When you’ve completed your cladding, you can fill any nail holes with wood filler.  Thereafter, it’s a case of sanding the wood flooring and finishing it with your preferred finishing option.  To complete the project, you can trim the wood with your preferred style of trim.

Another effective idea for using wood flooring on walls is to use it as a bed-head.  Simply create the shape you want and fix it to the wall.  With this option, you can have as simple or extravagant a bed-head as you want, at a fraction of the cost of buying a pre-made equivalent.
