How To Prepare For Your Wood Flooring Delivery

Once you’ve researched and selected your wood floor, you’ll no doubt be excited about it, and keen to see it in place.  However, before you can enjoy dressing your room, there are a few logistical issues to think about.  One of the most important is preparing for the delivery of your new wood floor.  Needless to say, taking delivery of your new floor involves a bit more organisation than looking forward to a bulky delivery from the likes of Amazon, but with a bit of planning, it’s sure to go without a hitch.

Here are our TOP TIPS for getting ready for your delivery:

It sounds really obvious, but make sure that someone is at home when the delivery is planned.  It is important that whoever is going to take charge of the delivery of your new floor, knows exactly what they’re taking delivery of, ie.  how many of each carton to expect and exactly where the packages are to be placed.

When you’re planning for the delivery, it’s important that you clear sufficient space for the packages to be stored, but also make sure that there is a clear passage for the delivery people to negotiate the space with the packages.

It is important when deciding where you’ll store your boards before installation that you take into account the climatic conditions of the room they’ll finally go into.  If at all possible, it’s ideal to store the boards in the room itself so they can acclimatise, but if this is impossible, try to choose a room that has the same conditions, but is in another space in the house.  It’s important to leave the flooring in its boxes to acclimatise and you should make sure that temperatures stay relatively consistent and that the storage space is dry and well ventilated.  Acclimatisation is an important part of the whole installation process for your new floor, so please don’t ignore it.  You can read more about acclimatization here (link to article Should I acclimatise wood flooring before installation?).

Generally speaking, your new wooden flooring packages are going to be bulky, heavy and will take time to unload.  With this in mind, it’s important to make sure you have made arrangements for the delivery people to park within close proximity to your home, in a kerb side location.  This is particularly important if you live in an apartment where parking or access might be difficult.  If there are likely to be any access issues, it’s well worth letting the delivery people know in advance.  That way, they’ll be ready for what’s ahead, rather than frustrated or angered by it!  If at all possible, it’s worth making sure you have someone who can help with the unloading.

Make sure you have a checklist of what has been ordered so you can check in every item as it arrives.  It is important, if there are any issues with the delivery, that they are raised as soon as possible.  Any unresolved issues are always harder to sort out later rather than sooner.

So, once your flooring decisions are made and you’re well under way to getting your project started, a little bit of preparation will mean that your delivery goes without a hitch.  After all, the effort you make now will mean that your whole installation process goes smoothly, allowing you to be sitting enjoying your new floor before you know where you are!

If you are worried in any way about the delivery of your new floor, you should contact your supplier who will be able to reassure you, and give you specific details about how their delivery system operates.
