At Wood and Beyond we know that our clients love this style of worktop, so make it a priority to always have a good selection in stock. You can find our full range here.

So what is it that makes full stave prime oak worktops such a bit hit with our clients? In order to explain, we need to take a couple of steps back and look at what exactly is meant by full stave and what qualities prime grade wood has that others don’t.

Full stave oak worktops

Oak worktops are either made from small blocks of oak or full staves of oak. Single pieces of oak that run the full width of a worktop are relatively rare and extremely expensive, but a great alternative is full stave oak worktops. Full stave oak worktops allow you to appreciate all the beauty of the wood at a price that won’t break the bank.

Full stave can either be single pieces of wood that run the full width of the worktop or broad planks that are effectively bonded together to create a beautiful, solid looking piece of wood. Made by either bonding broad planks with straight edges together or by using a finger joint method, this style of worktop has a really consistent and expensive look to it, even though it hasn’t cost a fortune.

Prime oak worktops

When you add prime grade wood into the full stave equation magic really happens.

When wood is lumbered, it is graded into one of four different grades: prime, select, natural and rustic. Although the grade of the wood has little or nothing to do with the quality of the wood, the different grades look completely different.

Prime grade wood is at the top of the pile when it comes to its sleek looks. Prime grade oak has very few visible knots, a long and consistent grain, uniform colour and very little sap. Add all of these things together and you get an elegant and incredibly classy end result. Without exception, every full stave prime oak worktop we have in stock is sure to please, but let us introduce you to some of our favourites.
