Make Your Hallways Beautiful with Engineered Oak Flooring

One of the greatest qualities of engineered flooring is its ability to be used anywhere in the home without ever sacrificing quality. Even in small or narrow spaces such as pantries and hallways, engineered oak flooring maintains its visual appeal. The process for installing the flooring does not differ much from main rooms either. When all the rooms are connected with the same flooring, the transitions from rooms to hallways are seamless. If you decide to add flooring throughout your house and especially in hallways, do not hesitate to call a professional for help. They know how to measure and plan correctly to ensure a smooth flow from room to room.

Things to Watch Out For When Installing Engineered Oak Flooring

When you install flooring in a long and narrow space such a hallway, there are certain things to watch out for. Typically, the direction of the flooring throughout a house is dependent upon the direction of the hallway. The grain of the wood should follow the length of the hallway, rather than the width. This means that as the floor expands through door openings or at the ends of the hallway, the direction of the floor in the room is already determined. When you decide to install engineered oak flooring, it is important to note the hallway directions if you start your installation process in a larger room. Even if you do not install floor in the hallway immediately, you should still follow the correct direction in the event you wish to in the future. Having to tear up a floor just to change the direction of the slats can be a huge mess and cost you unnecessary time and money.

Another thing to keep in mind is the width of the hallway in relation to the width of the slats and if you will need to do any cutting. You will likely have to trim one side to make the flooring fit and if so, make sure to trim the same side each time. If you trim the right most slat in one set, keep trimming the right most slat as you move down the length of the hallway. This will make everything more uniform and consistent. It is also good to keep the trimming to a minimum and on a single side, furthest from the centre of the hallway. This all affects the visual appeal of the floor as you want to make sure you have done quality work.

More than Just a Rectangle

The importance of hallway flooring is often overlooked when installing engineered wood flooring. The truth is, the hallway is one of the most, if not the most, crucial parts of home flooring installation. The rest of the house depends on the straightness and precision of the flooring in the hallway. The hallway can make or break the overall impression of quality of the floor so it is imperative to make sure it is done correctly. As always, hiring a professional to handle the installation will make sure your home is looking the best it possibly can.
