At Wood and Beyond, we know that when you choose your new wood floor, it’s important for you to know that you can source your accessories from the same supplier, enabling you to take delivery of everything you need in one go.  It’s for this reason that we make it our business to seek out the best adhesives to go with your wood floor.  When it comes to wood flooring adhesives, we’ve chosen to focus in on two brands, Rewmar and Bona.  We’ve picked these brands because they’re easy to use, really effective and come at a great price.

Here are the four flooring adhesives that we’ve singled out because we believe that they’re very best options right now:

Rewmar Flexyfix

Rewmar Flexyfix is a solvent free and water free adhesive that cures quickly and, as the name suggests, offers a highly flexible end result.  We believe this product to be one of the very best solutions available for bonding wood flooring accessories. This adhesive is ideal for fixing trims or nosings because its flexibility means that these accessories will have the ‘give’ to enable them to stand up to wear and tear, but will be firmly fixed in place nonetheless.  It’s also a really great way to start off your first row of flooring, acting as a high grab way to keep your starter boards in place.  Alternatively, if you’re planning a herringbone floor, this product provides convenience and flexibility.  Although not strictly a flooring product, this glue is also ideal for fixing your skirting boards back in place to cover your expansion gap once you’ve finished and giving your job a really professional finish.  All in all, this is an easy to use, clean adhesive that enables you to remove excess product easily and without trace.

Rewmar MS Polymer Adhesive

This adhesive is a really versatile solution that comes as a paste. The good thing about this adhesive is that it is relatively fast drying, which means that your floor can be ready for walking on in as little as 12 hours.  It is estimated to fix 1sqm of wood flooring per kg of product, so this 12kg pot will go a long way to getting many rooms started and finished.  The key feature of this adhesive is that it provides a strong bond but remains flexible, which enables your flooring to move without risk when it expands and contracts naturally.  When it comes to cleaning up spills and excess adhesive, you can do this either wet or dry, which means you can work at speed without fear of being left with excess product that you can’t remove.

Bona D700 Adhesive

This solvent-free, white glue is highly versatile and can be used for tongue and groove flooring as well as for full glue-down installations.  The main advantage of this product is that it sets quickly and is highly resistant to water.  Supplied in 1kg, bottles, it’s not the ideal solution for big areas and is generally not recommended for use in spaces that are greater than 35sqm.  That said, in the right space, this is a highly effective, easy to use and cost effective bonding agent.  Our clients who have commented on this product say that it’s a good product and does exactly “what it says on the tin”.

Bona R850T

Coming in a 7kg pot, this soft elastic, silane-based adhesive is a great solution for bigger jobs.  Highly resistant to expansion and contraction, this adhesive dries to a hard fix, thanks to a chemical reaction with moisture.  Covering 7sqm, the great thing about this option is that it’s really easy to use thanks to its firm texture.  It retains perfectly the trowel pattern, enabling you to see clearly where you’ve applied the glue and where you’re working.  Water and solvent free, this product reduces swelling of the wood considerably and enables easy cleaning while wet.  Suitable for use over under floor heating, this glue takes between 2 and 4 days to dry, depending on the conditions in the room.
