If you’ve decided that you want a natural looking wooden floor that is lacquer-free, then the likelihood is that you’ve chosen oil as your way of protecting your wood and making your floor look great at the same time.  Oil for wood flooring comes in various forms and is a great way of making sure that your wood is protected, but at the same time looks natural.  A highly popular as well as effective way of treating wood floors, oils effectively penetrate into the wood and in some cases harden into the surface of the floor to stop damage and to maintain the wood in its optimum condition.

Oiling wood flooring isn’t only an attractive way to protect your floor; in most cases it’s also an easy to apply solution.  If you haven’t read it already, you’ll find an article here that tells you step-by-step how to apply Bona oil.  Although this article relates to the oil that’s branded Bona, the broad principles of oiling a floor are pretty much the same whichever brand you choose.  That said, if you’d like any help with choosing the right oil or how to apply it, don’t hesitate to get in touch.  We have a whole team of experts here who can help you.

No matter whether you have a solid or engineered wood floor, if you’re thinking about re-oiling it, the chances are you’ll be on the lookout for a great product at a great price.  At Wood and Beyond we only sell products that we’ve tested and tried and would be happy to use ourselves, which is how we’ve selected the range of oils we have available right now.  Here’s an overview of the four wood flooring oils that we have chosen to stock:

GRANWAX Hardwax Oil Satin Clear

Comes in a 5-litre tin and is priced at £70 ex VAT. This wood flooring oil is completely clear and is made up of a mixture of natural oils and waxes.  It is a great way of protecting your wood floors from the negative effects of daily wear and tear.  Easy to apply, without any need for sanding in between coats, this oil can be buffed up to have a higher level of sheen or left to retain its natural look.  At only £14 ex VAT per litre, this oil isn’t only extremely effective; it’s a seriously good buy too.

Blanchon Clear Maintenance Oil

Comes in a 1-litre tin and is priced at £19.50 ex VAT. Again an attractively priced solution, this Blanchon Clear maintenance oil is the perfect way of bringing your oiled wooden floor back to life.  Penetrating to the core of the wood, the good thing about this oil is that it retains its matt look.  A particularly quick drying option, this oil has a pleasant smell and is highly versatile.

WOCA Hardwax Oil, natural

comes in a 2.5-litre tin and is priced at £65 ex VAT. While this product is far from budget basement cost-wise, you can expect a great result for your investment.  A solution commonly used by the professionals, WOCA Hardwax Oil won’t disappoint.  Extremely hardwearing and known for leaving a light film on the wood, this product can be used on any unfinished or newly sanded wood.

Bona Hard wax oil

Comes in a 0.75-litre tin and is priced at £17 ex VAT. This is arguably one of the most popular wood flooring oils on the market and it’s easy to see why.  Easy to apply and quick drying with excellent coverage as well as being highly effective in combatting wear and tear, it’s fairly priced and is used by professionals and DIY-ers alike.
