This wide plank of Chocolate Chic Rustic Engineered Oak Oiled has a width of 189mm, it comes in a length of 1860mm and in thickness of 14mm with a top layer of 3mm .The rustic grade of the floor allows for sapwood, knots and natural grain pattern. Each tongue and groove plank has beveled edges on two long sides and is finished with stained Oil. Engineered Floor Construction


Engineered hardwood floors are very strong, easy to install and will not reacting to heat or moisture making them an ideal choice for areas where solid floors might struggle. 21 mm planks are multi layers, constructed out of between 7-9 layers where the top being 6mm Oak veneer and then 15mm multi layers of ply for extra stability.14mm and 15mm planks are made of three layers: the top layer being Oak , 3mm or 4mm , while the bottom two layers are made of Spruce.
Both the Multi and the three layers are cross-glued using hot press technique; this is to ensure a strong yet flexible construction that reacts very little to changes in humidity and temperature.Although engineered floors are sometimes called ‘semi-real floors’ they look and feel 100% like solid floors.

All flooring must be installed by a professional fitter, according to the manufacturing installation guide. Warranty is against manufacturing defects only.Please note that once received, all flooring need to be stored completely flat (not leaning on walls) and in sealed boxes until you are ready to lay them. All boxes need to be kept inside your house (not in a garage or any other outbuilding). During storage, please make sure that they are kept well away from extreme heat (radiators) and kept away from any moist areas (recently plastered walls, dump basements etc). We recommend of an acclimatizing period of at least one week, during that time flooring needs to be kept in sealed boxes at room temperature.

Please note that the UFH needs to be running for at least two weeks before you can fit the floor, and the acclimatizing period is tho weeks as well.

The installation method will be determined by the type of flooring you are buying and also by the type of sub floor you have.

There are three common categories for subflooring:

- Concrete or cement/ screed
- Wooden-Plywood, Chipboards
- Floor Joist or battens

Please note that vinyl floors, glued-down carpets, and other existing flooring types are not suitable as subflooring (especially for wood floors) and must be removed. Before installing any type of flooring, it is important that you get down to the solid, flat and dry subfloor.

Preparation Steps:

Make sure the room is completely free of any obstacles such as your old carpet or wooden floors so you can concentrate on installing rather than moving furniture around.
Ensure the surface is clean from any debris and other reminisces of the previous floor.

Floating Installation

Floating Installation is the easiest DIY installation method because it requires the least amount of skill or prior experience in installing floors for the newbie builder. This is when you PVA glue the tongue and groove together. An underlayment is required with a floating installation to prevent contact between the floor and the subfloor and more importantly to serve as a moisture barrier and insulation. Quality underlayment to deaden the sound of walking on the floor can make a huge difference. If you've saved on the process so far by buying your hardwood floor online, make sure to install high quality underlayment. PLEASE NOTE: Due to the movement of a solid wood floor it is not recommended for floating installation.

Glue Down Installation

While this guide is likely to give you all the information you'll need for Glue-down installation, always read the information which came with the floor or contact the seller if unsure. Glue-down installation requires the use of a bonding agent or adhesives applied directly onto the subfloor and can be laid onto both concrete and wooden subfloors. PLEASE NOTE: always read the health and safety recommendations when working with agents. If you are laying over a concrete subfloor you will first need to put down a two part epoxy damp proof membrane to ensure no damp rises up into your new floor. Glue-down installation can be very stable when done properly, although it does take some time before you can actually walk on your floors. The adhesives will need to bond to the floor, and can be quite messy especially when done by a less skilled installer.

Nail-down Installation

Nail-down installation is the most straightforward of all solid wood floor installation methods, and is only advised if you have a wood subfloor and plenty of time to focus on the work. When installing over plywood the direction you choose to lay the planks does not matter; however, if you are going to nail down a new floor over an existing floorboards you must face the planks of the new floor in the opposite direction of the floorboards, essentially making a criss-cross pattern. Solid wood floors are thicker; hence, they need to be nailed down in order to stay in place so consider hiring a nailer for large surfaces otherwise it might take couple of days. Typically when nailing down an 18mm-22mm solid floor you will want to use 2” long nails. Generally, people regard nail-down installation as being very exacting and time-consuming. It requires you to use specific tools and equipment, which can be hard for a DIY job. There is also a certain skill and level of knowledge needed for this type of installation. One suggestion with all nail down installations is to use 2mm poly foam underlay this helps to make sliding boards into place easier and it also reduces the potential squeaking noise your floor produces when walked on.

To protect your flooring further, it is advised to apply at least 2 coats of Hard Wax Oil onto your flooring after it had been installed. Maintenance of your hardwood floor is very easy, the key is upkeep, namely cleaning your floor often and thoroughly - but not too thoroughly. 

Please note that you SHOULD NOT use any chemicals and abrasives as they can scuff, scratch or even remove your floor's finish and gloss. We recommend to use felt protectors under the legs or bottoms of heavy furniture, chairs, etc. and to avoid wearing spike-heeled shoes or damaged shoes on the floor as they can cause damage.

Regular cleaning

Placing mats at all points in the home with exterior entrances to avoid debris being tracked onto the flooring will help keep it clean and in a good state. A good procedure to clean your floors in an efficient and proper manner is to initially sweep the area with a soft bristle broom or Hoover it. It is important to examine the broom's bristles before starting, as some brooms are not appropriate for some surface areas and can also scratch or mar the finish. It is best to try the broom on a small area of the floor first to insure that it's not damaging the floor in any way. This should be sufficient in most cases and If this procedure is maintained on a regular basis, you will certainly prolong the beauty of your floors for a very long time.


In cases where you have rough stains, you can clean your floor with a dump cloth/ mop, please make sure it will not be socked as wood and water do not mix well tougher. Evenly mop the entire surface area until clean, and then let the area air dry. Beyond this, there are other steps that can be taken less frequently that can add life and beauty to your floors, such as floor treatments.


Regular Floor Treatment


For oiled finishes, Re-oiling you floor every few months can help protect and preserve the flooring beautiful look. Be sure to verify the contents and application procedures for your specific product. Doing this every few month or so is perfectly safe for your floor's finish and will add that desired effect of longevity and beauty to your home.
