Find A Fitter
1. Contact the store from which you bought the floor - Most sellers of quality hardwood flooring products work with a group of highly qualified fitters. Odds are that this group of qualified fitters has been working with the seller for some time and it is in the best interest of the flooring seller to ensure high quality service, especially after the sale.
2. Ask your family and friends - What could be better than getting a personal recommendation?. There is a good chance that someone you know has recently had their floors installed. Pick up the phone and start making some calls. You may also consider asking your neighbours and coworkers as recommendations can go a long way in ensuring satisfaction.
Validate Their Credentials
3. Find out their experience - Ask how long they have been in business and whether they have a store front you can visit. A well established business is more likely to complete the work to your satisfaction. In some cases the fitter might have an online store front, which isn't as convincing as a physical store front, but it's a start.
4. Ask for references - An established business is likely to have a few customers who would gladly give them a reference. In addition, find out whether you can view any similar work they may have done in your area.
Agree On The Scope
5. Ask for a quote - When the fitter arrives at your home, ask for a written quote which includes basic drawings of each room. If your flooring has special needs such as taking into account underfloor hearing, home cinema cables etc make sure it all goes into the quote. Consider getting at least two more quotes so you can compare prices and negotiate the best deal for yourself.
6. Find out about their insurance and work guarantee - An established business should have a type of insurance which covers your home as well as the home of your immediate neighbour. Ask whether their work is guaranteed and whether the guarantee is insurance-backed. This means that if they go out of business, the flooring work is still covered.
