Solid oak flooring 'will last a long time with a little care'

Couples only need to invest a little time maintaining their solid oak flooring for it to last as long as their house does.

The New Floor Guide suggested that many older properties boast solid oak flooring which to this day still offers a nice and luxurious look and went on to recommend it to others.

"If you want a floor that will last as long as your home does, consider installing solid oak flooring," the source claims.

To make sure it maintains its handsome look for many years to come, couples must sweep or brush the wooden floor at least once a day to prevent dirt, stones or other debris which has been brought into the house from scratching it.

As is the case with most wooden floors, it is important not to soak it when cleaning it, as too much water will cause it to warp.

Couples should instead wipe the floor down with a slightly damp mop on a weekly basis.

Getting people to remove their shoes before stepping on the hardwood flooring is one way of reducing the amount of grit and dirt which could potentially scratch it, according to the doityourself blog.
