Solid flooring is the best option available to homeowners looking to improve the quality of the surfaces in their house.
This is according to Peter Hotton, writing in the Boston Globe, who noted while other choices may be cheaper, they do not have the longevity that hardwoods can offer.
"It can be sanded when necessary, at least three times, so in the long run it will last 100 to 200 years," he noted.
Mr Hotton observed that oak, red and white are the three main types of hardwood, while pre-finished boards are the best.
He admitted that engineered products are acceptable for those who cannot afford anything dearer, but if homeowners are willing to invest then solid flooring is the only way to go.
It comes after Your Home observed that solid wood boards are still proving to be very popular, while a number of different trends are beginning to emerge that offer alternative finishes.
