Men 'still look after garden decking'

Posted on 19th Apr 2011 @ 3:14 PM

Men are still the most likely to look after the garden decking in homes, a new survey has found.

A poll of some 2,000 people found that while females are seen as the best all round gardeners, it is still the male domain when it comes to the patio.

Gary Philpotts, spokesman for Roundup weed killer, which carried out the poll, said: "Men haven't been completely pushed out of the garden as it seems to be their job to prepare the garden [and maintain] the fences and decking."

With three-quarters of respondents saying they enjoy pottering outside, investing in decking could be a good move.

Mr Philpotts said 84 per cent of people in the UK have access to a garden and so spending money in this area may be worthwhile.

Springtime may see an increase in the amount of decking that is installed, as people look to take advantage of their backyard.
