Hardwood floors are commonly found in dining rooms, one expert has said, which means a rug can be used to offer a different look.
Helen Green, author of the Terry's Fabrics interior design blog, noted wooden floors are a popular theme in many dining rooms, but the rest of the space still needs to be properly decorated.
"If the dining room is meant to be soft and traditional, darker colours will often best suit this, with materials both heavy [and] thin, that provide ... natural warmth," she added.
Once the floor surface has been decided upon, accessorise the room with curtains, blinds and the perfect table to help tie it together.
Ms Green encouraged people to shop around for the best material possible when it comes to the chairs.
The Richmond Review recently observed hardwood flooring is becoming an increasingly greener option, as the trend of using reclaimed wood continues to grow in popularity.
