Those who like the look of hardwood flooring inside the home could consider investing in the same material for their outdoor surfaces.
Installing decking may be particularly beneficial at this time of year, when the days are getting longer and warmer and many homeowners are hosting garden parties.
Ensuring the timber flows nicely between the house and garden could be essential to getting this approach right and a similar suggestion was recently offered by creative director Andrew Dunning, speaking to City AM.
He said: "If you prefer wood flooring in your living room then lay some smart decking outside to continue the wood look and create a large combined living space."
Using large doors between the house and patio is a wise move, as these can be folded back to create a spacious feeling or kept shut to separate the zones.
Wooden surfaces could also work well in other rooms, as the creative director at Bathrooms International recently suggested people are opting for timber in their WCs.
