People should be thinking long term when it comes to hardwood flooring, one expert has claimed.
John Heggland, who has been the owner of Connecticut Floor Supply Inc in Wilton for the past 50 years, told the Westport News that the option can be a "forever product".
This means if it is looked after properly, homeowners can expect to get a lot of use from it.
"We can re-sand floors that are up to 150 years old," Mr Heggland remarked, which goes some way to highlighting how durable it can be.
The news provider observed a survey carried out by the National Wood Flooring Association found 99 per cent of estate agents said properties with hardwood flooring were easier to sell.
Linda Jovanovich of the American Hardwood Information Centre was also full of praise for the surface as she said it can go on to look "wear-resistant" for a number of years.
