Engineered flooring a good green option?

Posted on 22nd Mar 2011 @ 4:03 PM

People should make sure they opt for an environmentally-friendly floor covering when decorating their homes.

According to an article in the Indianapolis Star, one of the main benefits of green options are that they can make sure homeowners end up with better air quality.

This is because some options may be emitting volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can be potentially harmful.

For those who get engineered flooring installed, they need to make sure it does not contain formaldehydes or VOCs.

"It's important for homeowners looking to invest in eco-friendly flooring to research and understand the composition of the flooring, as well as the adhesives, glues and other products used during the installation," the news provider observed.

Individuals may also want to consider where the wood has been transported from if they are trying to be sustainable, as locally-sourced products are always the best.

It comes after a recent blog posting on Chicago Now said engineered flooring is a great alternative to hardwood options.
