Those who are sure that they could install or resand hardwood flooring have been advised to go for it.
Anne-Marie DeSouza, editor of Build It, said that in many cases couples are not ambitious enough when it comes to home improvement tasks but stated that certain jobs should be left to experts if people are unsure.
"People should really only take on tasks that they feel comfortable with and feel competent enough to handle," she noted.
Ms DeSouza went on to add that DIY jobs should always be carried out by two people to make them easier.
"Remember a job shared is a job halved," she stated.
The importance of tackling wooden floor installation only if one is confident was highlighted by recent research by Clydesdale and Yorkshire banks.
According to the study, one in ten homeowners have shelled out in excess of £500 in the last 12 months to rectify botched DIY jobs.
