Decking should be part of garden plan, says landscaping expert

Posted on 18th Apr 2011 @ 5:01 PM

Homeowners installing iroko decking must ensure they have a comprehensive plan for the entire outdoor space before starting work.

This is the suggestion of landscaping expert Tom Merkle, speaking to The Morning Call.

He says this involves deciding on the type of garden furniture that will match the new decking.

Many people are even opting for a full-sized sofa to place on the deck, as well as other seating and tables that ensure the area is ideal for hosting parties.

"You want to plan your outdoor space so that if you do entertain a lot there's enough room.

"It's not just a simple deck anymore," Mr Merkle suggests.

The surface area of the decking may well have to expand, compared with the size it was a number of years ago, as people want to make the most of their garden and ensure they have plenty of room.

Those hosting parties to celebrate the royal wedding on April 29th may well be using their decking as a zone in which to entertain guests.
