Once you have chosen your floor, it is very important that the installation is carried out by an experienced installer. Many beautiful floors have been ruined by inadequate attention to installation.
Wood and Beyond offer an extremely professional installation service and our installers are true craftsmen with many years experience.
Depending on which type of floor you buy, and what surface you wish to have it laid on, there will be a specific installation type that should be employed. Below are the main installation types and examples of when they are suitable;
Floating: This is where the boards are fixed to each other and not to the subfloor. An underlay is normally used in between the two surfaces. This type of fitting should only be employed on Engineered Wood Flooring as it is more stable. This method of fixing is often used above electric underfloor heating.
Nail Down: This is where the boards are fixed to the subfloor by firing a nail, at an angle, through the tongue of the plank into the subfloor. This method conceals the nail in between the boards and hence is known as Secret Nailing. It is an excellent fixing method and is suitable to use with both solid and thicker engineered boards that are to be laid on top of existing floorboards or plywood.
Glue Down: A full bed of adhesive is applied to the subfloor using a trowel and the new floor is laid onto the glue. It is an excellent long term solution , is suitable for both solid and Engineered flooring, and can be employed as a fixing method to Concrete(with or without underfloor heating) and most sheet materials, particularly chipboard.
Whichever fitting method is recommended, a lot of attention should be given to the suitability of the subfloor prior to installation.
Works may need to be carried out prior to installation to ensure an excellent finished product.
Surveys and Estimates: Only once one of our surveyors has visited your project, can we give a final estimate on the cost of the installation. Our quotations will include as much information as possible, but there may be occasions when unforeseen additional works may need to be charged over and above the original quote
